Cheviot Sheep & Their Guardians
The Best Buddies.
Who We Are
How did we start our sheep farm?
We have a flock of North Country Cheviot Sheep on our small farm. These guys are hardy, thrive in all conditions, and have great mothering instinct. When the first time came to select our breed to begin with, we did lots of research and found that the North Country Cheviot Sheep will be our best bet. And we were right. We fell in love with this breed and amazed at how well these sheep can grow and how smart they are.
Why Raise Cheviots?
Cheviot Sheep Produce High Quality Wool
Cheviot wool is often blended into other yarns to give resilience and durability to the finished article. The fleece is dense and long-stapled, of 56s-50s quality, and springy to the touch. These special properties also help reduce fleece rot and fly strike problems.
They are Perfect Moms
Bred to look after themselves, Cheviots need less husbandry. Their ease of lambing and strong mothering instinct means fewer lambing problems. Hard black feet make them less prone to foot rot. Their tendency for worm resistance means less drenching, less crutching and less fly strike. With wool-free faces, Cheviots never suffer from wool blindness.
They Produce Tasty Meat
Not only do the Cheviot sheep provide you with excellent, high-quality wool, but they also give you delicious lamb and meat. They aren’t typically raised for their milk production.
